Places To Eat And Drink

The Lake District is full of exciting places to eat and drink and discovering these can be an enjoyable part of your stay, from simple tea rooms to Michelin starred restaurants. Keswick has a huge range to suite all tastes but  listed below are some of the nearest to the cottage.

Pubs And Inns

The Lion Pub directly across the village square from the cottage is a lovely traditional Lakeland Pub with open fire and a friendly welcome.Great food and real ale is served but if you prefer to eat and drink in the cottage the pub also offers a takeaway service.

The Snooty Fox, just about a mile away in the neighbouring village of Uldale, another Lakeland Pub with good food and beer including Uld Ale brewed in the independent brewery of Hesket Newmarket exclusively for this pub.

There are 2 Sun Inns nearby, both serving good food. The Sun Inn Wigton is on the left hand side of the main Carlisle road just before you turn off into Wigton. It serves a very wide range of food at reasonable prices and is popular locally. The Sun Inn in Bassenthwaite village is more expensive but the food is of excellent quality. It is in the centre of the village near the stream.Unfortunately no pictures available.Another locally recommended pub is The Greyhound at Bothel.

The Old Crown Pub in Hesket Newmarket is unique. It is owned by a co-operative of more than 100 local people. The pub has its own brewery and makes ales for its own use and exports to other local hostelries.

If you go over this crossroads, you will find your way to The Pheasant Inn at the head of Bassenthwaite lake. This old coaching inn has a deserved reputation for fine dining . It is AA *** and has 1 rosette for food, booking is advisable.
